Who Won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund?

For young American designers, getting a nod from Vogue and the CFDA is about as encouraging as it can get, especially in the form of a $300,000 grant to develop their brand.  Such is the ethos behind the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, now in its 12th year, which was presented to three lucky designers last night.

The CVFF is a four month competition between a group of 10 keen designers and has been won by now heavyweights such as Alexander Wang and Proezna Schouler in the past.  This year, the prize was dolled out three ways, between Brother Vellies, Gypsy Sport, and Jonathan Simkhai.  According to CFDA President Steven Kolb, the decision to split the prize - which is a new precedent in Fashion Fund history - was only made yesterday morning, by a panel of expert judges including Anna Wintour and Jenna Lyons.

This is also the first year since 2009 that the prize has been won by a woman, on behalf of Aurora James of Brother Vellies.  We attended James' first presentation for the ethical footwear brand at New York Fashion Week this year, where we bumped into Kanye and first got an inkling that this is definitely a brand to watch (read).

I founded Couturesque Magazine when I was 15 years old because like many of my peers, I felt ignored and talked down to by all of the other teen fashion publications out there.
