How to Upgrade Your Eyeliner Game

Time to get creative.

By now, eyeliner can seem pretty mundane. We’ve all had our cat eye crazed phase and the simple lining of your upper lash line is probably a staple in your everyday look. Eyeliner can even seem like a nuisance to some. The time and patience needed to perfect the flick is just too much of a hassle for most of us. But we all have to admit that, once we win the battle for balance between the left and right eye, something magical happens. With eyeliner, we have the ability to create a multitude of looks, just by changing up the styles. I’m happy to report 6 new (slash revived) eyeliner trends that will take you from sultry, to witchy, to cool-girl chic with a few strokes.

Underline It
What every cool-girl will be feeling themselves in this season. The thick underline is equal parts edgy and artistic, and an enthralling accessory to any look.

Barely There
When it comes to your eyes, sometimes the littlest flick of eyeliner can change your look and eye shape completely. That, plus a little dab of glitter, and you’re ready to rock.

Xtra Long, Xtra Straight
Long gone are the days of a simple flicked up cat eye. Skip the angle and extend the line as far as you desire to achieve this bold look.

The Colour Accent

Details, details, details. This look gives you the classic look of a black cat eye, with a little embellishment.

For a quick yet haute makeup look, try lining your eyelids just above or below the crease.  White pops nicely on deeper skintones, but unexpected colours like navy or purple will also bring out the colour of your eyes too.

Lay It On Thick

This moody, sultry look is perfect for festivals, hole-in-the-wall dining, late night city slickin’, or any other occasion where you want to show off your witchy side.

What do you think of this article?

I founded Couturesque Magazine when I was 15 years old because like many of my peers, I felt ignored and talked down to by all of the other teen fashion publications out there. I figured that at the end of the day, the people who knew the most about my generation, were the people who belonged to it. The fashion industry is becoming increasingly dependent on the creativity of younger voices who challenge the status quo and make us rethink what we wear and why we wear it. And that is exactly what Couturesque set out to celebrate - authenticity, intelligence, originality, and diversity... in other words, what makes Gen-Z tick. Fast-forward to 2016 and we now have a staff of more than a dozen fashion distruptors contributing to our daily content from all around the globe, 100K+ readers following us from Toronto to New York, to London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Tokyo, and Tel Aviv, and a plethora of big-wig industry fans and collaborators. But what matters to us the most is the responsibility that our publication has to make a positive impact in the lives of those who come across it - we stand against retouching our photoshoots and we stand for sharing the beautiful, individual, complex voices of everyone, especially those who feel marginalized by mainstream fashion media. We hope that you love our site as much as we do and that you take the time to follow us (Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Pinterest / Tumblr / Snapchat / YouTube) throughout our journey to make fashion accessible to the powerful young adults of today.
