ICYMI: This Weekend at London Fashion Week

Topshop, Simone Rocha, Shrimps, oh my!

Despite the fact that more than half of today's major womenswear designers are men, this weekend at London Fashion Week felt like a serious girl power moment.  Female designers owned the catwalk and created imaginative, striking collections that wooed the press and won social media brownie points across every blogger's Snapchat story.  In an industry still plagued with patriarchal ideas of business and dress, it was refreshing to see female designers like Topshop's Kate Phelan confidently step into the spotlight for Spring/Summer 2017.  These were some of the standout lines that we saw this weekend from London's leading ladies.

Simone Rocha
Leave it to 30 year old Simone Rocha to spin an elegant and majestic collection from a farm theme.  The designer paired patchwork with tulle and fine yarn with crisp poplin and macramé for SS17, creating a collection that stole our hearts.


Topshop Unique

Always a Couturesque favourite, the Topshop team embraced the individuality of 80s London fashion markets this season, and we loved the result.  Mixing vintage bygone pieces like denim jackets, boiler suits, and utility shirts with done-up florals and vinyl party dresses, this collection grew upon last season's "art school" theme, showing all of the contours of youth, from outfits for a day in class, to a night out, to world domination.


News flash: Hannah Weiland just designed our dream wardrobe... again.  Adding more gauze to the brand's signature menu of furs and ribbons, the collection conjured the feeling of an English garden party, or the perfect pastel brunch uniform.

I founded Couturesque Magazine when I was 15 years old because like many of my peers, I felt ignored and talked down to by all of the other teen fashion publications out there. I figured that at the end of the day, the people who knew the most about my generation, were the people who belonged to it. The fashion industry is becoming increasingly dependent on the creativity of younger voices who challenge the status quo and make us rethink what we wear and why we wear it. And that is exactly what Couturesque set out to celebrate - authenticity, intelligence, originality, and diversity... in other words, what makes Gen-Z tick. Fast-forward to 2016 and we now have a staff of more than a dozen fashion distruptors contributing to our daily content from all around the globe, 100K+ readers following us from Toronto to New York, to London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Tokyo, and Tel Aviv, and a plethora of big-wig industry fans and collaborators. But what matters to us the most is the responsibility that our publication has to make a positive impact in the lives of those who come across it - we stand against retouching our photoshoots and we stand for sharing the beautiful, individual, complex voices of everyone, especially those who feel marginalized by mainstream fashion media.
