Fashion is constantly changing and improving, and even though it may seem that there are no rules anymore, it’s far from the truth. Many fashion-obsessed people still have a couple of guidelines that they follow – and they can be very judgmental. Your number one priority should definitely be feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing, but pay attention to the fashion faux pas that may make you look a bit unfashionable. Take a look at the things you shouldn’t be doing, as someone (fashion savvy girls) will definitely notice.
Shoe comfort shows
Many girls opt to push their comfort zone to the point of discomfort, and the problem is that they are not aware that this can be seen from miles away. No matter how pretty the shoes are, if you’re not comfortable in them, or cannot walk in those high heels that you think are perfect – avoid them. As The New Yorker says – if the shoe fits, don’t wear it unless it’s comfortable. It’s better to wear something that’s made for you and makes you look confident than wearing footwear that will only make you look ridiculous. You know yourself the best, and there is no need at all to stretch yourself just to wear something that’s trendy at the moment. Think about this.
Not every piece of clothing is meant for everyone
It’s very important to know your limits and know your body. Just because something is extremely popular, doesn’t mean that it’s meant for everyone. You have to pay attention to the shape of the body, height, size, and even age. What would you say if you saw an elderly lady wearing a crop top? For example, having stylish and trendy denim jeans is simply an imperative, but make sure to choose just the ones that are good for you. Boyfriend jeans might be very popular, but they don’t look great on everyone – you don’t want to look stout. Stick to the pieces that you look good in, as these could be more fashionable than any other piece that can be seen on the runways. Just wear it with confidence.
Be original, not a copy!
Sure, you will have people whose style will influence the fashion choices you make, but that doesn’t mean that you have to copy their style by the book. What you should do is stop mimicking them to the last detail, but rather take their look and make it your own. Use the fashion combinations of those people as an inspiration and work around that. Change certain things and add your own accessories. You really don’t want to look exactly like Rihanna or the mannequin in the window of your favorite store!
Designer clothing overload
Not everything is in labels. Wearing a bunch of expensive designer pieces at the same time is very much noticeable, and we have to let you know that this looks very, very bad. It’s not enough to only choose a designer piece, but you have to know how to wear it and what to match it with. When you’re buying an expensive piece of clothing, don’t look at the price or brand first, but ask yourself whether it can be combined with other clothes that you have at home. There are so many things that you can wear that expensive piece with, things that are not of any particular designer or brand but will still look good.
Old trends should stay in the past
Yes, old trends will always somehow find their way back into our lives and wardrobes, but just wait for them to come back, or carefully select the old trend that you want to resurrect. The lines between fashionable and retro are very much blurred, but if you choose something that was trendy two or three years ago – you might come across several eye-rolls. Those trends are too old to be alive, and yet too young to be retro. Chokers are slowly dying, for example, and think twice before you wear one next time.
Be careful with over-accessorizing
Just like with clothes, there are certain rules on which accessories go together and which ones don’t. First of all, you should definitely run away from any over-accessorizing trend – rather wear one good statement accessory, such as a necklace or earrings, and avoid putting too many necklaces, bracelets and rings all at once. If you want to go with the Boho style and have a ring on every finger and a bunch of necklaces around your neck – select them carefully, as not every piece of jewelry that you own is made for this style.
According to the new rules of style, anything is possible and the chances of you making a really big fashion mistake are very, very low. However, these are the things that you have to look out for. Enjoy your spring and dress nicely!
