What is a social media influencer?

As social media continues to endlessly grow, it’s no surprise that the job title of “influencer” is a hot topic. Social media influencers are people with a large following on platforms such as Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, or even Snapchat, who are paid by companies to promote different products. Often time they work with companies to produce blog posts, short sponsored films, or advertisements with their endorsement. Research by Twitter suggests that 40% of users make purchases based on a direct Tweet from an influencer.
