Over the last decade, Rihanna’s style evolution has forced us to constantly check our Twitter and Instagram Feed in the hopes of grasping a minute part of her spectacular creative endeavors. Last night, thanks to a full coverage via Tidal and the incessant buzz created from EVERY music and fashion news source on the globe, Riri fans finally got their first glimpse at her latest successful project.
On September 28th in the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild at the heart of the City of Love, the Barbadian beauty wowed this season’s Paris Fashion Week critics when she debuted the Spring 2017 line for her Fenty X Puma collaboration. This time around, the artist and designer ditched the gothic industrial feel from her first collection and opted for a more sheer-and-ruffles Versailles type of ambience.
Everything from the Puma lace fans to the corset and sweatshirt layering perfectly embodied what she describes as a “Marie Antoinette at the gym” look, which combined light material pieces with heavy and loose street wear apparel. The amalgamation of the subtle colors - ranging from pastel pink and sharp purple to army green and bold ivory - perfectly reflected the ever-present contrast of feminine delicacy and rough edginess from her personal (and enviable) wardrobe. For this runway presentation Rihanna selected some of the top models in the game. As bare shoulders and long legs strutted down the maze-like catwalk, newcomers like Slick Woods and Yasmin Wijnaldum joined the familiar faces of Imaan Hammam and Taylor Hill, and put in work (work, work, work, work, work) on the chandelier-lit wooden floors.
As for the footwear and accessories? Rihanna kept up the mixed theme by incorporating some shoelace trimmed pumps and stiletto mules as well as sky high platform boots and her trademark Puma slides. Apart from the lace do-rags and Renaissance fans, she also had a few models hook a pearl or hold a diamond ring between their lips to make sure each outfit was royally popping.
On her latest Instagram post, where she is pictured wearing an extravagant blush zip-up drawstring jacket with a long train, @badgalriri expressed her shared gratitude for the show’s “incredible response and reviews from the most respected [people] in fashion” for a collection she confirms will “create something inspiring to the world of athletic wear” (and fashion in general, we presume).
