Picture this: you’re watching a classic 80s high school film, the main girl is incredibly dressed, and all you want to do is be her. Now, imagine that said girl is also a princess, and you’ve just imagined Molly Goddard’s AW17 show. Full of colour and 80s character, Goddard’s show makes you want to stand by a locker, tiara balanced on your perm, chewing gum like you’re the queen of everything while Madonna’s Material Girl plays in the background.
Goddard’s signature chiffon was present in an array of extensively layered and decadently ruffled ball gowns and rara skirts; this time however, they were dressed down, paired with hot pink or printed sweatshirts or boldly printed zip front jackets. Poofy silk gowns received the 80s treatment as the models also wore leggings and ballet flats (I can just see the edgy prom photos now).
And who says spring/summer colours are just for spring/summer? Not Molly Goddard, that’s for sure; her catwalk was alive and bursting with colour - electric blues, hot pinks, deep reds, and sunny yellows were out in full force. Goddard’s AW17 collection is truly all about girls who just wanna have fun.
