MARQUES ' ALMEIDA: GO BIG OR GO HOME

Marques ' Almeida's latest collection for Fall 2017 was a lot of things, but subtle and demure were not two of them. As the songs of the ever-powerful Nina Simone set the tone, a collection appearing to be inspired by both 60's mod and the 80's in it's prime charged down the runway.

Paulo Almeida and Marta Marques, the creative duo behind the brand, are no strangers to graphic prints, bold colors, or major proportion play; however, this season proved to be sleeker and sharper than any collection before. Extremely oversized blazers saw equally powerful prints, from red and black (as well as black and white) vertical stripes, black tile patterns, and large checker prints to a contrasting black and white two-tone - motifs seen throughout the collection. The show was filled with stand-out looks, a high neck cuffed sleeved zip-front black and white striped dress and a checkered top/pink ruffle skirt look that felt as much early 60's Twiggy as it did Molly Ringwald (a la Pretty In Pink) just to name a few. Accessories, however, are what the brand is quickly becoming known for. As for this season, statement boots were the shoe of choice (aside from the occasional pointed toe sling-back or leather sneaker), be it thick candy-colored peep-toe platforms or a bold updated cowboy boot previously seen in their spring 2017 RTW collection. The bags ranged from mid-sized, structured, and fringed to large and slouchy - all while remaining bold in hue.

Bright reds, bubblegum pinks, electric blues, sunny yellows - Marques ' Almeida's collection felt very much unlike the average fall collection. Then again, this collection isn't for the average girl.
