WOMEN TAKE UP SPACE AT PRADA FALL 2017

Miuccia Prada surely knows how to prepare the perfect mix of politics with fashionable oomph. A doctor of Political Science herself, she does not want to make her label strictly political, she has decided for the past couple of seasons to truly acknowledge the state of the world. With a saturated collection that contained almost every color ever invented (really), the designer spoke about the role of women in the shaping of modern society. Prada was inspired by Fellini’s film City of Women and its various motifs from the ‘50s, late ‘60s, and early ‘70s with a gentle touch of surreality.

We see everything from snakeskin coats, patchwork leather, ostrich feathers, marabou trimmings, crystal and leather fringe, shell necklaces – very strong and very visible objects that declare the presence of women in a male-dominated world. It is as if every look screamed that women are visible, active, and that their role is vital. So why are their rights being rolled back? Asking questions like this is precisely what political fashion aims at.

Prada’s habitual elegance, class, and seduction can be appreciated in every look. Only time will tell if Miuccia will continue to bring politics to the fore of her design work.
