After more than a full year of planning, research, shooting, editing, interviewing, and experimenting, Couturesque is thrilled to reveal our first ever print project. Zines have been an important way for people who don’t quite resonate with mainstream publications to find a voice, particularly for female-identifying communities. Once an exclusively online publication, we are so excited to be entering this new territory and delivering you new content in a new medium.
Couturesque prides itself on empowering young women through fashion and beauty. Our first zine features an interview with All Woman Project founder and model Charli Howard, an interview with Black Girl Magik founder Shydeia Caldwell, and new original think pieces by Couturesque contributors. It will also include a glittery makeup editorial by former Beauty Editor Alyssa Manuel and photographer Sophia Baboolal. Through interviews, illustrations, and essays, the zine will address questions of how beauty is defined in the era of social media, and whether these standards have truly become more democratic or not. Couturesque views this project as a type of “handbook” to navigating the modern beauty landscape as women and as intersectional feminists.
The zine is available now (for free!) online here and can also be ordered from Joomag in print at this link.
