2017 - where did you go? This year went by in the blink of an eye for me. I lived in three different countries, had three jobs, started my second year of school, and grew a lot as a person and as a ~creative. This year has meant acknowledging my weaknesses as well as my strengths and trying to reckon with who I want to be and what I intend to focus on. For example, I'm starting to finally realise that contrary to what the time and effort I've put into styling gis might suggest, I have no interest in becoming a stylist. Writing is my passion and what makes me feel fulfilled and happy, and I'm starting to find that photography might be as well. Learning to cut away what doesn't matter or what adds gratuitous stress to my daily routine has been a difficult but important (and empowering) process.
December - to me - is all about reflecting back on what I've gained and lost this year. It is about coming home after my longest stretch of time being away in my life. It is about learning to accept myself and move forward and hopefully, learning to be a better person. This month, I want to practice quiet and make room for others' voices; I want to listen to understand, not just to respond. Instead of feeling rushed to end the year on a high, I intend to appreciate what I have and all that I did - not what I didn't do.
