Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018 began with a warmed ambience as Simon Porte Jacquemus of Jacquemus presented his Moroccan inspired ready to wear collection at the grand location of the Petit Palais.
As the young designer continues to be a hot topic in the industry, it was no surprise that French fashion royalty such as Ines de la Fressange, Christian Lacroix as well as Jacquemus muse and French It Girl Jeanne Damas were in attendance.
Although some were concerned once “LE SOUK” - a type of Arabic marketplace - was announced as the theme for the AW/18 presentation, Simon struck the right chord all the way from the casting to the music to the clothing. He notes that the inspiration came from a trip to Morocco that he took following one of his previous runway shows. “I got lost in the souks with just one thing on my mind: I want to make it my next summer collection. I came back to Paris and made my winter of it; my winter collection. Not wasting any more time, my warm winter.”
The show was exactly that; a radiant yet sensual collection that makes you long for a warm getaway from the frigid winter season. As it stays true to the Jacquemus aesthetic, the collection entailed fluid jumpsuits and slips, clingy knits and t-shirts, and itty-bitty bags (that he claims get smaller every season). There was a dose of repetition on the runway but overall the collection left a compelling feeling, one that Jacquemus never fails to bring to the table.
As he closed the show, Simon made a statement wearing a sweatshirt that read “NEW JOB: L’HOMME JACQUEMUS." With the continued success surrounding his womenswear collections, we believe Simon will continue to triumph with Jacquemus for Men and we are excited to see what’s to come in June.
