In light of our theme for April/May, I’ve been thinking a lot about my relationship with my own body and thinking about how I can be better for myself. April and May are months when everything is on the cusp of change. I find my days becoming whirlwinds as I rush between school, photoshoots, and apartment showings, everything just about to change as we inch towards the relief of summer. Often, amidst all this mess and commotion, I find myself ignoring my body’s needs. It’s important to take the time to remember that no matter how busy you are, your body and mind cannot function properly on two hours of sleep, four coffees, and eight gogurts. (And yes, unfortunately, that is a real-life scenario from yours truly.)
For me, May is about making sure my body is getting what it needs to thrive, and also letting go of all the stress and obligation I’m carrying. Personally, I know that I need to learn how to budget both my physical and emotional time, so I can enjoy life and not burn out. Living in New York often comes with a rigidity and intensity that’s not necessary or healthy, so May is going to be all about looking for a release from that.
